How can I apply to join the DMCRT?
Recruitment periods are announced on our Instagram and Facebook pages. You’ll be asked to read through the contract, submit some forms, and describe some of your past experience and education. Please click here to navigate to our application page.
Do I need prior training to join DMCRT?
No prior training is required to be a part of DMCRT! Although many of our applicants have Standard First Aid CPR C or other certification, it is not mandatory. DMCRT provides successful applicants with all the necessary certifications required to be a member of the team.
Do I need to be in a certain program to apply?
Any Dalhousie student, regardless of program or faculty, can apply to be a member of DMCRT. Our current team consists of students in Nursing, Science, Kinesiology, and other disciplines! You can also join if you are studying at the graduate level, but keep in mind that there is a strong time commitment required for DMCRT membership.
What certification do the members of DMCRT hold?
Our Volunteer Medical Responders (VMRs) have Advanced Medical First Responder-1 training, Mental Health First Aid and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training. Throughout the year DMCRT members are also trained in additional non-certifiable skills, such as naloxone administration and glucometer testing.
Is DMCRT always available on campus to provide first aid?
At the moment, DMCRT only provides coverage at Dalhousie related events and overnight shifts on Dalhousie residence. If you are interested in having DMCRT at your event, please request service!
What can I expect if DMCRT is at our event?
Depending on the size of the event, DMCRT provides at least one team of 3 - 4 VMRs, including one Duty Supervisor. We bring 2 trauma kits, portable oxygen, and an AED. In addition, each VMR carries their own first aid kit. Our VMRs are also trained in Mental Health First Aid and can provide active listening and support to your participants.
