How can I apply to join the DMCRT?
Recruitment periods are announced on our Instagram account and our application webpage. You’ll be asked to read through the roles and responsibilities document, submit a digital application, and describe some of your past experience and education. Applicants who proceed to the next step in the application process will be invited for an in-person interview.
Do I need prior training before I apply to join the DMCRT?
No prior training is required to join the DMCRT! Although many of our applicants have Standard First Aid, CPR C, or other certifications, they are not mandatory. DMCRT provides successful applicants with all the necessary certifications to be a member of the team.
Do I need to be in a certain program to apply?
Any Dalhousie or Kings student, regardless of program or faculty, can apply to be a member of DMCRT. Our current team consists of students in Science, Health, and other disciplines! You can also join if you are studying at the graduate level, but keep in mind that a strong time commitment is required for DMCRT membership.
What certification do DMCRT volunteers hold?
Our volunteers have Advanced Medical First Responder-1 training, Mental Health First Aid, and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training. Throughout the year, DMCRT members are also trained in additional skills, such as naloxone administration, glucometer testing, responding to sexualized violence, and leadership training.
Is the DMCRT always available on campus to provide first aid?
At the moment, the DMCRT only provides coverage at Dalhousie-related events and on the weekends in residence buildings on Studley campus. If you are interested in having the DMCRT at your event, please request service!
What can I expect if the DMCRT is at my event?
Depending on the size of the event, the DMCRT provides at least one team of 2+ volunteers, including one Duty Supervisor. We bring trauma kits, oxygen kits, and an AED. Our VMRs are also trained in Mental Health First Aid and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training and can provide active listening and support to your participants. Depending on the nature of the event, our volunteers will likely sit near the event to be prepared to provide first aid if needed.
Does it cost money to have the DMCRT at my event?
The DMCRT provides event coverage for Dalhousie and Kings societies and organizations free of charge! If you are interested in having the DMCRT at your event, please request service!
