OUR MEMBERS

DMCRT has five teams of people who work to make Dalhousie a safer and healthier community.

Director of Communications

Kaitlyn Blakney

Hi there! My name is Kaitlyn Blakney, and I am so excited to be the DMCRT’s Director of Communications for the 2025-2026 academic year. This year will be my fourth year on the DMCRT. I had the privilege of being the DMCRT’s Director of Operations from 2023-2025 and being a VMR during the 2022-2023 academic year. I am a fifth-year honours Microbiology and Immunology student with a minor in Health Studies. I grew up in Kingston, Ontario and moved to Halifax for university. Outside of studying and the DMCRT, you'll find me at the gym, hiking, swimming, travelling, or taking care of my 50+ houseplants. I'm looking forward to increasing the DMCRT's promotions on campus and interacting with more community members during the 2025-2026 academic year. If you see me around campus, please say hi! :)

The Executive

The Executive is responsible for the operation of all aspects of the team, from training members to organizing first aid information sessions and mental health awareness events open to the Dalhousie community. The Executive is elected by all DMCRT members at the Annual General Meeting in March.

Director of Operations

Sam Case

Hi everyone! My name is Sam, and I'm excited to step into the role of Director of Operations. I joined the DMCRT as a Volunteer Medical Responder in my second year before transitioning to a Duty Supervisor role, a position I've held until now. I'm currently in my fourth year studying Medical Sciences, and am originally from Toronto, Ontario. Outside of my time with the DMCRT, I enjoy spending time with my dog, Gus, and travelling. You can often spot me around campus wearing my favourite hat with the tree from the Maine state flag on it! I'm always happy to chat if you have any questions, and am looking forward to expanding our presence on campus and working with you all!

The Patient Volunteer Program

Patient volunteers are a critical component of our ongoing training sessions. Patient volunteers receive mock patient scenarios from the training department, which they learn and bring to our first aid training sessions. While volunteers will not practice first aid, they gain valuable experience as our responders take a patient history or non-invasive vitals during scenarios. This program allows insight into the roles and responsibilities of a Volunteer Medical Responder and the operations of the DMCRT. If you are interested in joining, please email patientvolunteers@dmcrt.ca
