CERTIFICATIONS
Advanced Medical First Responder Level I
All DMCRT volunteers are certified with Level I AMFR training through St. John Ambulance. AMFR-1 certification involves a 40-hour course, where students are introduced to a thorough standardized assessment protocol, oxygen administration and advanced injury management skills. Mental Health First Aid
All DMCRT Volunteers receive Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training from the Mental Health Commission of Canada, facilitated through St. John Ambulance. This 8-hour course focuses on recognizing the signs of mental health or substance use concerns, decreasing stigma towards people with lived or living experience, increasing confidence in providing help to others, and emphasizing self-care for the first aider. Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training
The Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) certification is provided by Living Works. ASIST is the world’s leading suicide intervention workshop. During the two-day interactive session, participants learn to prevent the immediate risk of suicide through intervention. Over 1,000,000 people have taken the workshop, and studies have proven that the ASIST method helps reduce suicidal feelings for those at risk.
